CloseEvery now and then, a guitar comes along that exceeds expectations - and this is one of those times. On paper, this is a Larrivee D-40 with an upgraded High Grade Bear Claw Sitka Spruce top. But this guitar has something more going on. The voice of this particular guitar is EXTREMELY well-balanced with rich and responsive lows, crisp highs that aren't brittle, and an exceptionally sweet midrange. There's definitely something special happening in the marriage of woods in this particular guitar. Without a doubt, this is the best-sounding and best-playing D-40 we've had come through our store yet!
The revolutionary new Larrivee 40 Series features Larrivee's "Scalloped Parabolic Hybrid" bracing system design. Based on their tried and true X-Brace design, Jean Larrivee blended a non-symmetrical scalloped lateral cross-bracing pattern with the standard X-Brace. This means maximum strength using the least amount of material. It's a build that allows even further vibration of the soundboard, while still offering controlled bass response. The 40 Series are built in America using all solid wood, like all Larrivee's, and feature brand new upgrades like bone bridge pins, nut and saddle, diamond fingerboard dots and 18:1 open back tuners. Jean's exciting new design means a fresh new sound that is sure to appeal to traditional and long-time Larrivee players alike.
This particular guitar has quite the low-end punch...very atypical of mahogany guitars. The satin finish is smooth and inviting, and allows even more resonance from the guitar. Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, maple binding, and an ebony fingerboard and bridge, this guitar begs to be played. The sound can best be described as full and balanced, with a musical low end and pure high end. The midrange on this guitar is very clear and defined, and is sure to excite the ears of anyone who hears it.
