In October of 2024, we travelled to Paul Reed Smith Guitars to spend a day in the Private Stock Wood Vault to select wood kits for a handful of exceptional Private Stock builds. This is one of those special guitars.
Of all the PRS Private Stock guitars we have had come through our store, this one is - without a doubt - the liveliest and most resonant one to-date! When selecting the woods for this build, the first mission was the top. When we found this amazing Maple Burl top, we were blown away by how lightweight it was! So then, when pairing this top with the right body wood, we went through every piece of Swamp Ash that was available in the PRS Private Stock Wood Vault until we found this particular piece. It was noticeably the lightest piece of Swamp Ash available, and it features the highly sought-after "cathedral" figuring in the grain. It wasn't until this guitar arrived to our store that we also noticed there is a slight amount of flame figuring in the Swamp Ash body. The Flamed Maple neck and Ebony fretboard give this guitar just the right amount of "snap", making sure that every note cuts through just right. To keep this one from being too "over-the-top", we chose to go with PRS's Old School Bird inlays, but only utilizing an outline inlay made from Paua which ties in with the Faded Turquoise color on the top, but keeps the fretboard subtle and classy! All Private Stock instruments are exceptional in every way, but this one has that little something extra that makes it stand out. If you're looking for a Private Stock guitar that you want ultimate player enjoyment from, this is the one!
